I built this page because you kept landing on one guide and never finding the rest. Thirteen of them live on this site now, and they weren’t written in order — I’d work out a page-count question one month and a binding question the next, whenever I ran into it myself. This is everything gathered in one spot, grouped by where you probably are.
New to chapbooks? Start with the basics: what one actually is, how it differs from a zine or a pamphlet, and the wiki page that goes deep on where the form came from. Once that’s settled, the making guides cover the parts that trip people up most — page count, layout, ordering the poems, binding the thing so it survives being handed to someone. And once you’ve got a finished booklet in hand, the last group walks through what happens next: publishing it yourself, submitting it, or working out what it costs to print.
I’ve made every mistake covered below, usually more than once, before I got it right.
